For developers evaluating their next localization tool
SimpleLocalize vs POEditor: A SaaS Developer’s Buying Guide
Start with your files and release process. The most useful comparison is how each tool handles your project, rather than which one has the longest feature list.
Official documentation checked . This is a documentation-based comparison; we have not run a paid-plan test. Links to SimpleLocalize may earn us a commission, at no extra cost to you.
Check your project's key and string counts
Enter source keys from your translation files, not words. This example assumes one source term per key and every target language fully translated. Calculated in your browser; these inputs are not saved or sent to a vendor.
Use whole numbers: 1–1,000,000 keys and 1–100 target languages.
SimpleLocalize capacity
1,000 keys
Above the listed Community key or language limit; check paid-plan capacity.
POEditor capacity
4,000 strings
Above the listed 1,000-string free allowance; check paid-plan capacity.
Capacity alone does not establish plan suitability or price. SimpleLocalize Community also lists one team member and 10 projects. Other projects, partially translated languages and stored reference-language values can change your real counts. Confirm required features and AI allowances separately.
Limits checked October 18, 2026. Recheck official pricing before subscribing.
Which should you evaluate first?
- Evaluate SimpleLocalize if you want key-based capacity and its documented import/export workflow fits your app. Validate the chosen plan's language, collaborator and automation limits.
- Evaluate or stay with POEditor if your existing process already works and its total stored-string allowance fits your expected language coverage. Include switching and retraining time in the decision.
- Compare more options if neither meets a must-have requirement. Our POEditor alternatives guide, eight-tool directory and free SaaS localization planner help you build a broader shortlist.
Keys and strings are different billing units
SimpleLocalize's pricing table lists key allowances. POEditor counts stored terms plus translations across your projects. Word count from a budget calculator cannot replace either measurement.
| Source keys / terms | Target languages | SimpleLocalize keys | POEditor strings |
|---|---|---|---|
| 250 | 2 | 250 | 750 |
| 1,000 | 3 | 1,000 | 4,000 |
| 2,000 | 5 | 2,000 | 12,000 |
The POEditor example is terms × (1 + target languages). Real totals depend on stored translations and project structure. These counts are not price quotes and do not imply equivalent plans.
Free plans and trials: check the limits separately
At review time, SimpleLocalize's comparison table lists Community allowances of 500 keys, 10 languages, 10 projects and one team member. Its pricing page advertises a 14-day trial. POEditor's pricing page lists a 1,000-string free plan and describes a 10-day trial. A trial does not prove that a feature remains available on a free plan.
For a paid comparison, use the same billing period, currency, file count, language coverage and reviewer count. Add translation or AI usage charges separately. Check the vendors' current pricing rather than assuming that the planner's hypothetical tool budget buys a particular subscription.
A practical test before you subscribe
- Save your current files and record key counts, language codes and required features.
- Import a representative file with variables, plurals, line breaks and longer text. SimpleLocalize's getting-started documentation describes choosing a format and uploading source translations.
- Invite the reviewer you would actually work with. Confirm their permissions on the plan under consideration.
- Export the file, build your app and check the relevant screens. Compare keys and values against the original; record any lost metadata.
- Only then test automation and a second language. Keep your current workflow available until the new one passes.
For the detailed switch checklist, read how to migrate from POEditor to SimpleLocalize. We have not verified a one-click, lossless migration between the tools.
When switching is not worth it
Stay with the current tool when the expected benefit is smaller than migration, QA and retraining work, or when the new plan cannot demonstrate a required workflow. A working repository integration and an established review process have value even if another plan looks cheaper.
Separate the subscription decision from translation spend with the SaaS localization cost guide. A lower tool fee does not automatically reduce review work.
