How to pick a translation management tool
- Start from your workflow: how strings leave your repository and how translations return (CLI, API or Git integration).
- Count the right unit: vendors meter keys, words, hosted words or seats differently, which drives cost as you add languages.
- Plan reviews: larger teams usually need roles, approvals, a glossary and translation memory.
- Check your formats: confirm your file format and plural syntax are documented, especially for mobile apps.
- Test before committing: import one language, run your build and check placeholders.
See the full comparison in our translation management systems guide, or the Lokalise alternatives guide if you are switching.
A developer-focused option to trial
If your shortlist favors CLI and API automation, SimpleLocalize documents both and CI examples for GitHub Actions; see our CLI and GitHub Actions guide. You can start a SimpleLocalize project (affiliate link, new tab) and import one language before deciding. Verify which features your plan includes.

Frequently asked questions
How are the matches calculated?
Each required capability documented in the tool’s official sources adds points; optional capabilities add fewer. For free or open-source preferences, a documented free option adds a small bonus. Ties are broken alphabetically. The rules are the same as our planner’s shortlist and are described in the methodology.
Do affiliate links change the ranking?
No. Rankings are computed before and independently of any link. SimpleLocalize is the only tool with an affiliate link, and it is labelled wherever it appears.
What does “Not verified” mean?
We did not confirm the capability in the official sources we checked. It does not mean the product lacks it.
Is the result a recommendation to buy?
No. It is a shortlist to investigate. Run a one-language trial with your real files and confirm plan limits and prices on the vendor’s site.
Is my input stored or sent anywhere?
No. Everything is computed in your browser. We only count how often the finder is used, without your choices.
